![]() Quake was one of the first fully 3D First-person shooter games. Later updates added CTF and horde mode to multiplayer. The remaster included updated graphics, some restored cut content, the prior mission packs, an add-on section (initially only containing Quake 64 but eventually updated to include other community mods), Dimension of the Past, and a new expansion called Dimension of the Machine. This was a free update to those who owned the game on online platforms such as Steam or GoG. On August 19th, 2021, id Software and Nightdive Studios released a remaster for Quake. Quake also has two official expansion packs, Quake Mission Pack 1: Scourge of Armagon and Quake Mission Pack 2: Dissolution of Eternity. However, this game is a sequel in name only. Quake 2 was released on December 9, 1997. The earliest shareware release, 0.91, was completed on Jand released the following day after being compiled single-handedly by John Romero. The retail version (1.01) was released on Jfor Microsoft DOS. Quake is a First-Person Shooter video game that was developed by id Software and published by GT Interactive Software. It added to the game's sinister atmosphere, however, and the star power behind the soundtrack stood out at a time when many developers were just happy to have more than generic-sounding MIDI tunes. Until now, though, listening to that soundtrack has usually meant digging up your circa-1996 game CD or (let's be honest) finding a YouTube rip. Quake was a groundbreaking game in a number of ways, and that included its soundtrack - id Software scored a coup when it got Nine Inch Nails (technically, Trent Reznor) to score the grim first-person shooter.
